Overview: Designed by Pete Dye, the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass is a parkland layout in Ponte Vedra Beach. The routing meanders through wetlands and oak trees, placing a premium on strategic positioning. Key features include Dye's signature bulkheads, deep bunkers, and the short par-three 17th hole with its island putting surface.
History: Opened in 1980 specifically to host The Players Championship, the course was envisioned as a stadium-style theater for professional golf. Over the decades, it has undergone several refinements to maintain its modern competitive challenge.
Did You Know? The idea for the signature island green on the 17th hole came from Pete Dye's wife, Alice, who suggested flooding the sandy excavation pit surrounding the putting surface.
