Overview: TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm in Potomac, Maryland, is a championship parkland course. Designed by Ault, Clark & Associates, the layout features tight fairways, thick rough, and complex greens guarded by deep sand bunkers. The course offers a challenging, tournament-tested environment with several water hazards and wetlands that require careful strategy, making it a true test of consistency and shot-making under competitive conditions.
History: Opened in 1986, the course originally hosted the PGA Tour's Kemper Open. Between 2007 and 2009, the course underwent a complete redesign led by Steve Wenzloff and Jim Hardy. This project modernized the routing, restored natural streams, and rebuilt all green complexes to championship standards.
Did You Know? The Rock Run stream, a tributary of the Potomac River, was restored during the major renovation and now runs alongside several holes, serving as both a hazard and a scenic feature. This restoration also improved local drainage and created a thriving habitat for native plants and wildlife.
