Overview: The Stadium Course at TPC Scottsdale is a public desert layout designed by Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish. Its broad spectator-friendly corridors, stadium mounding and desert vegetation were planned to make tournament golf visible from many positions around the course.
History: Construction began in January 1986, and the Stadium Course opened later that year. The architects were asked to create a stadium-style venue for the Phoenix Open, which moved to the course in 1987.
Did You Know? The Stadium Course was designed so spectators could see much of the tournament action from elevated ground around the holes. That viewing concept remains part of the course's identity beyond the annual event.
