Overview: Tournament Club of Iowa is an Arnold Palmer Signature design in Polk City, routed across 500 acres between Big Creek Dam and Saylorville Lake. The course moves through a distinctly varied Iowa landscape of bluffs, ravines, wooded corridors, open ground and water. The directory lists it at 7,108 yards and par 71. Palmer's design team used the natural elevation changes to create a sequence of uphill and downhill shots, while the broad mixture of tees and open approaches gives the layout a range of possible lines and playing angles.
History: Arnold Palmer and the Arnold Palmer Design Company created the course layout in 2003. The site was developed around the dramatic land between the Big Creek reservoir system and Saylorville Lake, with the course occupying about 230 acres of the larger 500-acre property. The official course facts identify Palmer Course Design as architect and Enebak Construction as builder. The finished layout was intended to combine a naturalised Iowa look with a strong tournament identity: mature hardwoods were preserved, more than a mile of Big Creek and numerous ponds influence play, and the finishing holes use elevated viewing areas around the clubhouse and valley.
Did You Know? Tournament Club of Iowa is the only Arnold Palmer Signature Course in Iowa. Water comes into play on 13 holes, and the official course description notes that more than half a million cubic yards of earth were moved while shaping the property.
