Overview: The North Course at Torrey Pines is a public municipal course on the La Jolla cliffs above the Pacific. Its coastal routing combines pine forest, canyon edges and elevated views, with the North layout offering a distinct experience from the neighboring South Course. The course rewards disciplined tee shots and precise approaches, especially where the terrain limits recovery options.
History: William F. Bell developed the Torrey Pines course concept, and his son William P. Bell completed the original work in the 1950s. The site later carried a military history as Camp Callan during the Second World War before becoming a City of San Diego golf property. Tom Weiskopf's renovation work is associated with the North Course's modern form.
Did You Know? Torrey Pines is a municipal golf facility at 11480 North Torrey Pines Road, not a private resort club. Its name comes from the rare Torrey pine trees that grow in the surrounding reserve and help give the coastal setting its identity.
