Overview: Torrequebrada Golf presents 18 holes and a par of 72 in Benalmádena between the Mediterranean and the hills of the Costa del Sol. José Gancedo shaped a varied routing with mature trees, palms, pines and olives, while lakes and bunkers sit in strategic positions rather than merely filling the edges of the holes. The Spanish Golf Federation scorecard gives 5,842 metres from the white tees, approximately 6,388 yards, matching the directory figure. Many tees are elevated, so the opening view can suggest a simple line even when the landing area and the large, sharply sloping green demand a more precise plan.
History: The course opened in 1976 and quickly became an important part of the Costa del Sol golf scene. Gancedo, known as the Picasso of Golf, used large greens, strong contours and visual variety to make the layout expressive without abandoning strategy. Torrequebrada hosted the 53rd Spanish Open in 1979, won by South Africa's Dale Hayes. That tournament placed the young course on the European golf map and remains central to its identity.
Did You Know? The official club history records a course record of 62 by Scotland's David Law during the Gecko Tour in 2015. It also notes that Severiano Ballesteros missed the cut at the 1979 Spanish Open held here. The juxtaposition captures the course well: it can host elite competition, but its changing lines and large contoured greens still produce very different tests for ordinary rounds.
