Overview: Tobiano is an 18-hole championship course set on the bluffs above Kamloops Lake, where the semi-arid Thompson-Okanagan landscape supplies a very different kind of Canadian mountain golf. Tom McBroom’s routing uses plateaus, rugged canyons and exposed land to create a course that feels spacious from a distance but precise from the tee. Golf Kamloops lists 7,367 yards from the tour tees, with shorter tee references for a wider range of players.
History: Tobiano was developed on and around the historic Six Mile Ranch as part of a master-planned resort community near Kamloops. The course became the centrepiece of that destination, combining a full practice facility with a dramatic public layout and views across the lake. Tom McBroom’s design is repeatedly credited by the resort and regional golf sources; par and opening-year claims are left open where the current evidence does not align cleanly.
Did You Know? The seventh hole is known for a demanding tee shot over a large canyon, one of the course’s clearest examples of how Tobiano turns the property’s natural breaks into golf strategy. Kamloops Lake remains visible from every hole, while the contrast between bright fairways and the surrounding dry hills gives the course a character that is closer to desert-edge golf than lush coastal parkland.
