Overview: Tieke Golf Estate is an 18-hole course near Hamilton, carved from ancient terraces of the Waikato River. Brett Thomson and Phil Tataurangi designed the new routing around natural river sand, rolling contours and broad sandy waste areas, creating a links-like playing character well inland from the coast. Championship tees measure 6,336 metres, approximately 6,921 yards, at par 72.
History: Tieke opened in late 2021 after the former Lochiel and The Narrows clubs were reorganized and a new expressway changed the future of the old Narrows land. The project retained a strong connection to the Waikato landscape while building a new course on the former club property.
Did You Know? The course’s sandy ground has been dormant beneath the turf for more than 25,000 years, according to the club’s story, which is why the natural waste areas play such a visible role.
