Overview: Three Crowns Golf Club is a public Robert Trent Jones II design in Casper, Wyoming, built on a former oil-refinery site beside the North Platte River. The prairie setting gives the course a wide horizon and frequent wind, while broad mounds, native grasses, lakes and white-sand bunkers divide the holes into distinct playing areas. Eight lakes come into play on fourteen holes, so water is both a strategic feature and part of the site's environmental story. The 18-hole layout measures 7,065 yards from the back markers and asks players to balance aggressive lines with careful consideration of wind, water and the elevated green complexes.
History: Three Crowns opened in 2005 as part of the reclamation of a heavily altered industrial property. The design team had to work within strict limits on excavation: contaminated soil was capped with clean material, old refinery infrastructure was removed, and the reshaped ground became fairway mounds, lakes and playing corridors. Rather than hide the site's past, the course makes the transformation part of its identity. Raised wetlands, monitoring systems and water-treatment features were integrated into the landscape, allowing a former brownfield to become a functioning public golf environment beside the river.
Did You Know? The Three Crowns name comes from the former BP Amoco refinery symbol, whose gold, white and red crowns represented three grades of gasoline. The course also contains 84 bunkers, while its environmental system includes raised wetlands and water-treatment infrastructure that remain central to the design story.
