Overview: Thorny Lea Golf Club is a private course in Brockton, Massachusetts, designed by Wayne Stiles and John Van Kleek. Its present layout is associated with the 18-hole course that debuted in 1925.
History: Thorny Lea began in 1900 as a small group playing on a cow pasture. After the club assembled more land, the full 18-hole Stiles and Van Kleek course was completed in 1925. The founders came from Brockton’s shoe-manufacturing community.
Did You Know? Donald Ross surveyed Thorny Lea’s land in 1923 while the club considered expansion, but the transformation was entrusted to Stiles and Van Kleek.
