Overview: The Tournament Course at The Woodlands Country Club is the competition-focused routing in the large golf community north of Houston. Bruce Devlin and Robert von Hagge designed the 18-hole parkland course, which plays to par 72 and 7,002 yards in the current PGA Tour Champions tournament setup. The course’s visual language is Texas pine, water, rolling ground and green complexes that demand a precise second shot. It is long enough for professional competition, but the strategy is not simply to hit driver everywhere: the correct side of a fairway often determines whether a player can hold the next green.
History: The course opened in 1982 and was renovated by Carlton Gipson in 1996. It has a deep professional history, first as the TPC at The Woodlands and now as the host course for the Insperity Invitational on the PGA Tour Champions. That continuity makes the Tournament Course one of the best-known golf identities in the Houston area. It is part of The Woodlands Country Club’s broader five-course operation, but the directory routing here refers specifically to the Tournament Course.
Did You Know? The course’s professional story includes winners such as Raymond Floyd, Payne Stewart, Hal Sutton, Vijay Singh, Curtis Strange and David Duval. The current event fact sheet also records a recent agronomic refresh, including greens returned toward their original size and new TifEagle surfaces. Those details show how the course can retain its tournament identity while still adapting the playing surfaces for modern competition.
