Overview: The Red Course at The Wigwam is an 18-hole resort course in Litchfield Park, part of the historic property’s 54-hole golf offering. Robert "Red" Lawrence designed the traditional par-72 layout, which is listed at 6,852 yards from the championship tees. Pine and eucalyptus trees line much of the course, producing a greener, more established character than the open desert layouts around Phoenix. The closing stretch is the course’s signature feature, with demanding approaches and a long final hole that asks for precision all the way to the clubhouse.
History: The Red Course was built in 1972, after The Wigwam had already developed into one of Arizona’s best-known resort properties. Lawrence, an Arizona Golf Hall of Fame architect, gave it a different design voice from the Robert Trent Jones Sr. Gold and Blue courses. That contrast is part of the resort’s appeal: golfers can play three courses on one property and experience distinct architectural ideas, from Jones’s elevated greens to Lawrence’s tree-lined, traditional routing.
Did You Know? The Red Course’s final four holes are widely regarded as its defining stretch. The closing hole is a 591-yard par 5 from the championship tees, so the round finishes with a genuine three-shot challenge.
