Overview: The Blue Course at The Wigwam is an 18-hole resort layout in Litchfield Park, west of Phoenix. Robert Trent Jones Sr. designed the course, which opened in 1965, and the current scorecard lists a par of 70 and 6,373 yards from the Jones Combo tees. Compared with the resort’s longer Gold Course, Blue is a more compact test built around small elevated greens, strategic bunkers and a sequence of water features. The course’s mature planting and historic resort setting give it a classic Arizona character that feels distinct from newer desert developments.
History: The Wigwam began as a Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company guest ranch in 1929 and developed its first golf holes in the following years. In 1965 Robert Trent Jones Sr. was brought in to create a second 18-hole course and rebuild the first, producing the Blue and Gold courses. Later bunker and irrigation work, including a major Blue renovation in 2016, refreshed the layout while preserving its Jones-era identity. The resort now offers 54 holes across three courses, making the property one of Arizona’s longest-running golf destinations.
Did You Know? The Blue Course’s 15th is an island green par 3. It is one of the most photographed holes at the resort and turns a short shot into a clear test of distance and nerve.
