Overview: The Warren Golf Course at Notre Dame is an 18-hole, par-71 course on the wooded northeast edge of the University of Notre Dame campus in South Bend. Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw arranged the holes in a walkable, classic style, with short connections between greens and tees and a strong emphasis on angles, ground movement, and imaginative recovery. Juday Creek and several lakes influence the routing, while the wooded setting gives the course a quieter character than its championship history might suggest. From the back tees it plays at roughly 7,000 yards.
History: The course was made possible by a benefaction from Notre Dame alumnus William K. Warren Jr. and was named for his parents, William and Natalie. Construction began in 1997 on a heavily wooded tract near campus, and the course opened in the fall of 1999, with its formal dedication taking place on May 1, 2000. It replaced the university's former 9-hole golf facility as the principal championship course while that older campus course remained in use for instruction and community golf.
Did You Know? Warren is the only collegiate course that Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw chose to develop as a team, according to Notre Dame's course history. The layout has since hosted the 2019 U.S. Senior Open as well as NCAA, Big East, USGA, and Western Golf Association events.
