Overview: The Tribute is a North Texas links-style course on the Lewisville Lake peninsula in The Colony. Tripp Davis designed the 18-hole routing as an American interpretation of famous Scottish holes, using wind-swept mounding, native grasses, water and open lake country to create a course that feels deliberately different from a tree-lined Dallas parkland layout. The back tees stretch to 7,002 yards and the course plays to par 71. Its appeal is not simply the replica theme: the holes are arranged as a coherent round, with changing angles and exposed approaches that make wind direction and ground game part of the strategy.
History: The Tribute was developed as part of a golf community on the shore of Lewisville Lake and has been a North Texas destination for more than two decades. The club’s materials describe the clubhouse as established in 2000 and present the course as an award-winning, 1920s-inspired design. Tripp Davis’s concept draws from the traditions of Scotland without claiming to reproduce one original course. That distinction matters: the routing is a themed but independent American course, and it should not be confused with the separate Old American layout at the same property.
Did You Know? Several holes deliberately reference famous links landmarks. The scorecard identifies the 17th as a “Road Hole” and the 15th as “Whins,” while the club explains that the idea was to let golfers encounter familiar Scottish design ideas in Texas. The names are historical prompts, but the wind, lake-side ground and changing angles still determine the actual shot.
