Overview: The Territory Golf & Country Club is a private 18-hole Randy Heckenkemper course in Duncan, Oklahoma. The property covers roughly 640 acres of rugged ground, with native grasses, rocky outcrops, ponds and Stagestand Creek shaping the routing. Rather than forcing parallel fairways across flat land, Heckenkemper used the natural folds and water edges to create a secluded course with different views and changing shot angles. At par 72 and 7,110 yards, the layout has championship scale while retaining the open countryside character that defines southern Oklahoma.
History: The course opened in 2003 as the centrepiece of a private golf and country club development on Prospectors Ridge. Heckenkemper's design practice describes The Territory as one of its Oklahoma projects, and the course's own presentation emphasises the preservation of the land's pastoral and creek-side character. The layout was built as a retreat in the countryside, with golf, a clubhouse and the surrounding landscape treated as one connected property rather than separate amenities.
Did You Know? The Territory has also served collegiate competition, hosting an NCAA Division II super regional in the mid-2000s. That tournament history is a useful counterpoint to the course's quiet setting: the same natural routing that creates seclusion also provides a serious test for competitive golf.
