Overview: The Island Course at Singapore Island Country Club is an 18-hole, par-71 woodland course on the club’s Island site beside Singapore’s central reservoirs. The current course-design record gives 7,078 yards. Large trees, rolling hills, uneven lies and sloping fairways remain central to the experience, while the recent remodel improves walkability, drainage and conditioning without turning the course into a generic modern resort layout. It is a distinctly tropical, strategy-led course where the best line is often determined by the ground and the next angle rather than the widest visible landing area.
History: The Island course has roots in the 1932 opening of the original 18-hole course at the Island Club, one of the historic strands that later formed SICC. Nelson & Haworth’s redevelopment began in the 2020s, with the back nine opening for limited play in 2025 and the revitalised full course following later that year. Neil Haworth’s design work was implemented by partners and the wider project team after his death, so the current architect description preserves both the design authorship and the implementation history.
Did You Know? The redesign retained most of the existing routing and many mature trees while introducing native planting and more sustainable turf and irrigation systems. That gives the Island Course an unusual combination of old-course atmosphere and new-course infrastructure. Its identity is therefore not simply “historic Singapore golf” or simply “modern renovation”; it is a deliberate attempt to keep the character of the original tropical course while making its slopes and greens more playable.
