Overview: The Bukit Course at Singapore Island Country Club is one of the foundational golf identities of Singapore. It occupies the club’s Bukit Timah/MacRitchie setting and plays as an 18-hole, par-71 woodland course, with mature vegetation and reservoir-side terrain giving it a character very different from the newer coastal and resort layouts. The course’s appeal is not based on spectacle alone. It is a traditional club course where tree lines, uneven lies and the changing relationship between fairway and green make precision and imagination more useful than a single power game.
History: The Bukit Course was developed after the club moved away from the old racecourse, with the first 18-hole Bukit layout opened in 1924. Singapore Island Country Club itself was formed through the 1963 merger of the Royal Singapore Golf Club and the Island Club. Later restoration work has preserved the historic course while improving bunkers, turf and access. The exact directory identity here is Bukit, not the separate Sime course now operated by Keppel or the modern Island combinations being mapped separately.
Did You Know? Bukit has hosted an extraordinary list of Singapore tournaments, including the World Cup, Singapore Open, Rolex Masters, Johnnie Walker Classic, Caltex Singapore Masters and Lexus Cup. Six-time major winner Nick Faldo has also praised the course’s beauty. That competitive heritage sits alongside the course’s older woodland character, making Bukit both a historic club layout and one of the key venues in Singapore golf history.
