Overview: The Old Course at The Scandinavian is an 18-hole woodland layout in Farum, set within a 200-hectare estate that was developed from a former military training area. Its character comes from the balance between quiet forest surroundings and demanding, water-influenced golf. Accuracy matters more than sheer length, with five par threes that all bring water into the decision. From the back tees the course measures 6,361 metres, and fast, undulating greens make distance control as important as the drive.
History: The Old and New courses were constructed between 2006 and 2010 for The Scandinavian and designed by Bruce Charlton of Robert Trent Jones II Golf Architects. The project was intended to preserve the natural landscape and wildlife of the wooded site while giving golfers five teeing options. Sand-capped, fully drained playing surfaces and a carefully measured soil, sand and compost foundation were part of the original construction approach.
Did You Know? The Old Course finishes with a demanding par-five 18th, where water remains in play before the round returns to The Scandinavian's clubhouse. The club also recycles water from its lakes for irrigation, an operational detail that fits the site's broader attempt to combine a high-maintenance golf course with a natural setting.
