Overview: The Roaring Fork Club in Basalt is a private Jack Nicklaus Signature course arranged across the river valley and wetlands of the upper Roaring Fork. Its 18 holes move between open meadows, wooded edges and changing elevations, with small greens and tight approaches adding a classic strategic flavour. The setting does much of the visual work, but the design is not passive: river corridors, lakes, wetlands and shifting slopes require the player to adjust line and club selection repeatedly.
History: The course was established in 1999 as the golf centre of the Roaring Fork Club. Nicklaus’s design was built around the natural water network and the east-west orientation of the property, allowing the sun to change the appearance of the holes through the day while keeping the surrounding mountains in view. The club’s history is also linked to local conservation, with the Roaring Fork Club helping launch the Roaring Fork Conservancy in 1996.
Did You Know? Five holes play on or near the Roaring Fork River, Spring Creek or both, and another five pass through wetlands and lakes known for trout. That division gives the course two distinct environmental chapters: river-edge golf with moving water, and quieter wetland holes where the landscape holds the ball and narrows the strategic options.
