Overview: The Quarry’s Championship Course occupies a former gravel-mining site in La Quinta, California. Tom Fazio and founder William Morrow used the Coachella Valley desert as a starting point, then built a private layout around shaped land, planted vegetation and strong changes in elevation. The routing mixes desert openness with carefully framed fairways, elevated surfaces and a variety of approach angles.
History: The land was known for more than half a century as the Keller Pit before the course was developed. Construction moved more than 1.2 million cubic yards of dirt, installed thousands of trees and shrubs, and produced a course that opened in 1994.
Did You Know? The Quarry property contains more than the championship course. Its golf offering also includes a 10-hole short course whose holes can be played as par threes or par fours, plus an 18-hole putting course that is rerouted regularly.
