Overview: The Pines Course at The Prairie Club is a resort layout in Valentine, Nebraska, set in the Sandhills beside the Snake River Canyon. Graham Marsh designed the 18-hole, par-73 course to move between open prairie and stands of ponderosa pine, creating a different visual rhythm from the club's Dunes Course. The longest markers reach 7,403 yards, but the defining challenge is not length alone. Wind, sandy ground, uneven lies and the contrast between exposed and sheltered holes ask players to adjust their strategy throughout the round. The canyon and river add strong changes in elevation to a landscape often assumed to be flat.
History: The Prairie Club grew from Paul Schock's decision to create a golf destination in the remote Nebraska Sandhills. After acquiring the original ranch property and later assembling the wooded land to the south, the project developed two courses with deliberately different settings. The Pines was designed by Graham Marsh and formed part of the destination's debut in May 2010. Its creation followed the Sandhills philosophy of starting with exceptional golf land and allowing the routing to reveal the character already present in the dunes, prairie and canyon.
Did You Know? The Pines name is literal. The course occupies the wooded side of the Prairie Club property, including ponderosa pine country near the Snake River Canyon, while the separate Dunes Course presents a more exposed Sandhills landscape. The paired courses therefore offer two distinct Nebraska settings at one destination.
