Overview: The Pines Golf Club sits on the shores of Parua Bay, about fifteen minutes from Whangarei and beneath the Whangarei Heads. The 18-hole course measures about 4,982 metres and plays to par 70, with short par threes, testing par fours and reachable par fives sharing the same coastal ground. Tidal creeks, trees and generous greens create a round that rewards approach shots and creativity rather than simply asking for length.
History: The club has developed as a community course serving Whangarei Heads and the surrounding harbour settlements. Its present identity is built around accessible golf, friendly club culture and the natural setting, with the course kept playable through a mixture of irrigation, careful maintenance and local volunteer energy. Current course sources do not identify a single architect or opening year, so the profile avoids attaching a borrowed design history.
Did You Know? The 4th is the signature hole, a short par four where a meandering creek runs along the right side and crosses the fairway. A large tree in the creek adds another decision to the hole, so the apparent birdie opportunity quickly becomes a study in placement.
