Overview: The Palms Golf Club is a private La Quinta course designed by Brian Curley and Masters champion Fred Couples. Its long card reaches 7,081 yards and plays to par 70, but the course’s character comes from strategic bunkering, generous driving corridors and the sharp contrast between green playing surfaces and the Coachella Valley desert. More than 2,000 date palms, a meandering creek and the surrounding mountains give the course a composed, oasis-like visual identity.
History: The Palms was established in 1999 and has developed as a core private golf club rather than a resort course built around hotel play. Curley and Couples’ design combines traditional strategic ideas with modern desert shaping, and the club has kept the emphasis on golf quality, bentgrass greens and a quiet member experience. The result is a course whose architecture is visible in the ground game as much as in its larger hazards.
Did You Know? The Palms is unusual in the Coachella Valley for maintaining A-4 bentgrass greens, a surface the club highlights as central to its playing character. The greens can be firm and fast, so approach position and short-game control matter even when the fairways look inviting. The palm-lined setting is lush, but the course still asks players to manage the desert’s heat, wind and firm edges.
