Overview: The Missouri Bluffs Golf Club is a public Tom Fazio design in St. Charles, laid across rolling bluffs west of St. Louis. The course moves between wooded ravines, open ridges and shaped green sites, giving the par 71 layout a stronger sense of terrain than its suburban location might suggest. Generous fairways and large greens create room for confident play, but the bluff edges and changing lies reward a thoughtful route. Its character is Midwestern parkland shaped by elevation rather than by flat expanses.
History: Missouri Bluffs opened in 1995 after a project that brought Tom Fazio’s design to the developing St. Charles area. The course quickly became a recognized public venue and hosted the Missouri Bluffs collegiate tournament in its early years. Fazio’s architecture responds to the site by moving from higher ground into ravines and back onto the ridges, producing a round that changes its relationship with the landscape several times rather than repeating one corridor.
Did You Know? The course’s bluff setting is the source of its name and its main architectural resource. The first two holes introduce the broad fairway-and-green scale, but the later routing reveals the wooded ravines and elevated ridges that make the property distinctive. Missouri Bluffs is therefore best understood as a course where the landform supplies the strategy: elevation changes, sightlines and approach angles matter as much as the scorecard length.
