Overview: The Legends Course is one of Manila Southwoods’ two Jack Nicklaus-designed 18-hole layouts in Carmona, Cavite. The USGA rating record lists it at par 72 and 7,058 yards from the black tees. Its strategy is expressed through undulating mounds, doglegs and angled green complexes, with hazards asking the player to decide how much of the fairway or approach line is worth taking on. The former cane-field site gives the course room to breathe, while the shaping keeps the round tactically busy from tee to green.
History: Manila Southwoods was developed on about 140 hectares of former cane fields, with the club’s official history crediting Jack Nicklaus with both the Masters and Legends courses. The complex was built as part of a larger residential and club development and has been used for major national and international events. The club records do not isolate a reliable opening date for Legends, so this profile keeps the routing’s history separate from the better-documented dates of the wider Southwoods project.
Did You Know? Legends was used for the 1996 Eisenhower Trophy, the World Amateur Team Championship, when the event was played at Manila Southwoods. The course has also been a Philippine Golf Tour venue. Those appearances explain why the routing’s mounds, doglegs and angled greens are more than visual flourishes: they were built to create different strategic answers for a high-level field.
