Overview: The Links at Spanish Bay is a resort course located on the coastline of Pebble Beach, California. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., Tom Watson, and Sandy Tatum, the course is a traditional links-style layout with sandy dunes, tall grasses, and views of the Pacific Ocean. The course requires players to manage coastal winds and utilize low, running shots to reach the greens.
History: Opened in 1987, the course was designed to replicate the traditional links of Scotland. The project involved a restoration of the coastal sand dunes, which had been depleted by commercial sand mining. In 2026, the resort closed the course for a comprehensive 13-month renovation led by Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner.
Did You Know? Every evening, a bagpiper plays as the sun sets over the Pacific Ocean, a tradition that honors the Scottish heritage of links golf. The bagpiper starts at the second tee and plays past the clubhouse, entertaining travelers and golfers alike. This daily performance has become one of the most beloved traditions on the entire Monterey Peninsula.
