Overview: The Legacy is a public Raymond Floyd Signature course in Springfield, Tennessee, about thirty minutes north of Nashville. The 18-hole par-72 layout plays to 6,776 yards from the Floyd markers and moves through rolling countryside, mature woodland, water and Bermuda fairways framed by bentgrass greens. Floyd’s design creates a thoughtful target-golf test: the holes are not defined only by length, but by the choice of landing area, the angle into the green and the ability to manage elevation and tree lines. Multiple tee positions make the course approachable while preserving a serious championship scale from the back markers.
History: The City of Springfield developed The Legacy as a municipal golf course, and Raymond Floyd’s design opened for play in 1996. The course was built around the existing hills and mature woodlands rather than imposing a flat resort grid. From its early years it became known as one of Tennessee’s leading public layouts, and the city continues to operate it as part of its recreational offering. The Legacy is also a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary, reflecting an ongoing effort to conserve natural resources and wildlife habitat alongside the maintained playing areas.
Did You Know? The Legacy sits within a broader Springfield destination that includes the city’s greenway and nearby civic attractions, yet the course’s strongest visual asset is its mature woodland. Raymond Floyd used those existing trees and rolling ground to create separation between holes, so the layout can seem secluded even though it is close to the Nashville region.
