Overview: Palm/Mountain is an 18-hole routing at The Lakes Country Club in Palm Desert, where two of the club’s three nines are combined for play. Ted Robinson’s design uses the visual language of a Coachella Valley oasis: lakes and fountains, tall palms, mature shade, green fairways and Scottish-style bunkers. The exact directory label is important because The Lakes is a 27-hole private facility, not one unchanging 18-hole card. Members and invited guests play under the club’s reservation and access policies.
History: The Lakes was conceived by developer Bill Bone as an all-condominium community centered on golf, landscaped open space and water. Construction of the original 18 holes began in 1982, and the community assumed ownership of the golf course and other assets in 1986. The official history then records a 1987 decision to engage Ted Robinson for a nine-hole expansion. Palm/Mountain belongs to that three-nine-hole legacy and should not be confused with a separate Palm Desert club.
Did You Know? A Palm/Mountain round can differ in distance and hole sequence from the other combinations at the same facility. That rotating structure is the defining fact for this record: the club advertises three nine-hole courses, and the exact playing order is set through its tee-time system. The Lakes also provides a separate 18-hole putting course, which makes the property unusually golf-focused even beyond its full-size nines.
