Overview: The Bay Course at Kapalua follows the northwestern Maui coast with fairways framed by palms, volcanic ground and views across the Pacific. Arnold Palmer and Francis Duane designed a par-72 resort routing that measures about 6,600 yards in the directory record. Wind and coastal exposure are central to the course, especially on the holes nearest the shoreline.
History: The Bay Course opened in 1975 as the first championship course at Kapalua. A resort fact sheet credits Palmer and Duane with the design, while later course history has kept the layout distinct from the newer Plantation Course on the slopes above it.
Did You Know? The fifth hole crosses directly over the ocean, a rare feature in Hawaii golf. The hole is not merely ocean-facing, it uses the water as a direct carry between tee, fairway and green.
