Overview: The Golf Club of Oklahoma is a private Tom Fazio course in Broken Arrow, set on a large, wooded property east of Tulsa. The layout uses towering oaks, a spring-fed lake, native vegetation and existing water to create a secluded parkland experience without homes lining the fairways. From the back markers it reaches about 7,180 yards at par 72, while the generous land between holes gives the routing a sense of space unusual for a suburban course. Strategy comes from the relationship between trees, water and the broad natural corridors.
History: Fazio spent a year searching for the right site before shaping the course across roughly 525 acres of northeastern Oklahoma landscape. The club was developed in the early 1980s and became one of Fazio's early solo designs after he established his own practice. Later changes softened some of the original severity, but the central idea remained: preserve the oak groves, lake and natural terrain so the course would function as a retreat from the surrounding city rather than another residential development.
Did You Know? The course was laid out across nearly twice the land commonly required for an 18-hole course. That extra space is not incidental scenery; it is why the holes can remain separated by woodland, native areas and open ground while still retaining a coherent Fazio routing.
