Overview: The Golf Club at Thanksgiving Point is a public Johnny Miller Signature course in Lehi, Utah, where a long championship layout winds through the Ashton Gardens campus and the natural mountain-desert landscape of Utah Valley. The course measures 7,714 yards from the longest markers and uses broad fairways, large-scale green complexes, changing elevation and the Jordan River corridor to create a demanding but memorable round. Its identity comes from the contrast between carefully planted gardens and the open western terrain beyond them. The result is a course that can feel expansive and highly formal in one direction, then rugged and exposed in the next.
History: Thanksgiving Point Golf Club opened for play in 1997, less than two years after construction began. Johnny Miller designed the course with co-designer Fred Bliss, shaping a large championship project around the Ashton Gardens and Lehi’s natural mountain-desert setting. The facility was created as part of a wider destination campus that includes gardens, museums and restaurants, so golf has always been connected to a broader cultural and horticultural project. Over time the course has hosted the Utah Championship, the Utah State Amateur and other high-profile events, reinforcing its place in Utah tournament golf.
Did You Know? The course sits beside the Ashton Gardens, and its official description calls the gardens the landscape’s defining companion. The project also became known for its scale: contemporary reports described thousands of newly planted trees and a layout intended to use the dry air and high elevation of Utah Valley to support championship-length golf.
