Overview: Briar’s Creek is a private 18-hole Rees Jones course on nearly 900 acres of Johns Island Lowcountry. The routing works through maritime forest, marsh and wildlife habitat near the Kiawah River, with broad corridors and approach angles that reward positioning into the greens. Tournament tees play about 7,130 yards at par 72, but the setting and multiple tees keep the course broader than its championship numbers.
History: The club opened in 2001 as part of a private golf retreat on Johns Island. Rees Jones shaped the course around the existing Lowcountry landscape, and later renovation work focused on maintaining the course’s natural character while improving turf, bunkers and playability.
Did You Know? Briar’s Creek has been used for national amateur competition, including U.S. Amateur Four-Ball qualifying. Its wide corridors can look generous from the tee, but steady coastal wind and defended green approaches make the scorecard yardage only part of the challenge.
