Overview: The Soffer Course at Turnberry in Aventura is a resort layout with a distinctly South Florida character. Robert Trent Jones Sr.'s original framework is presented through Raymond Floyd's later redesign, with contoured fairways, doglegs, bunkers and water features creating a round that relies on placement as much as length. The championship card reaches 7,047 yards at par 71, but the course also offers a range of tee positions. Its lush planting and engineered changes of elevation are especially notable in a region where natural relief is limited, giving the Soffer Course a polished, resort-scale presence.
History: The golf course was part of Don Soffer's development of the land that became Aventura. Turnberry's company history describes the project as a transformation of 785 acres of South Florida swampland, with a golf-centered community at its heart. Robert Trent Jones Sr. designed the original courses, and a major Raymond Floyd redesign was completed in December 2006 after a reported $45 million renovation. The modern course therefore combines Jones's original authorship with Floyd's reshaping of the playing strategy and visual presentation.
Did You Know? The Soffer Course finishes with a 64-foot waterfall beside the 18th hole, one of the resort's most recognizable landscape features. It is an unusually theatrical conclusion for a Florida course and a reminder of how deliberately Turnberry uses water and elevation as part of its identity.
