Overview: The Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf Club is a Robert Trent Jones Jr. mountain course cut into the slopes below Blackcomb Mountain. The 18-hole, par-72 layout crosses creeks, ponds, granite outcrops and stands of old Douglas fir, with more than 400 feet of elevation change adding a distinct alpine dimension. Fairmont lists a 6,635-yard reference, but the course’s challenge is as much visual and positional as it is measured in length.
History: The course opened in 1993 and became one of Whistler’s defining summer attractions. Its Audubon certification reflects an operating and design relationship with the natural setting, while the Robert Trent Jones Jr. routing gives the resort a recognisable architectural identity. The current club remains independent of hotel accommodation for tee-time access, making it a practical option for visitors staying elsewhere in the village.
Did You Know? The course has an Audubon-certified setting and threads its holes through Douglas firs, granite rock, creeks and ponds. Its signature design trick is how those natural elements keep appearing as strategy, not scenery alone, so a mountain view can also dictate the safest line into a green.
