Overview: The Dunes Golf Links is a championship public course on the Mornington Peninsula, set among roughly 300 acres of gently rolling sand dunes near Rye. Tony Cashmore's par-72 routing uses the natural rises and hollows of the land to create a true links rhythm, with broad fairways, blind drives, deep bunkering and firm-running approaches. The course can look generous from a distance, but the best line is often determined by the shape of the ground beyond the landing area.
History: The Dunes Golf Club was formed in 1995, while the 27-hole layout containing the 18-hole Dunes Championship Course opened in 1997. That distinction matters for this directory profile: the current ranked course is the Dunes 18, not the later or separate Cups nine. The club has continued to present Cashmore's original dune strategy while refining conditions and the surrounding golf destination.
Did You Know? The opening hole begins with a blind drive over a large dune, immediately making the landform part of the strategy. Later holes repeatedly climb, turn and descend through the same sandy terrain, so the round reveals the property in layers rather than presenting one uninterrupted panorama. The visual drama is created by the dunes themselves.
