Overview: The James River Course at the Country Club of Virginia is a private William Flynn design in Richmond. Its parkland routing uses mature trees, shaped fairways, strategic bunkering and the James River as a backdrop, with the course playing to par 72 and 7,025 yards in the tournament setup documented by the GCSAA.
History: The course first opened on June 30, 1928, when two nines from separate golf properties were combined into a William Flynn layout. It has hosted the U.S. Amateur twice and has been the venue for the PGA TOUR Champions Dominion Energy Charity Classic since 2016.
Did You Know? The closing holes are shaped by the river and by the need to manage water and approach angles rather than simply chase distance. That combination has allowed the James River Course to remain a championship venue while preserving its Golden Age character.
