Overview: The Country Club of Spartanburg is a private Donald Ross course in Spartanburg, South Carolina, with later renovation work by John LaFoy and Kris Spence. The parkland layout uses subtle elevation, strategic bunkering and natural land movement, while the club’s long tournament history gives the course a strong regional identity.
History: The club was founded in 1908, but the current 18-hole course grew from Donald Ross work in the 1920s and opened in 1924. John LaFoy led a major renovation in 1985, followed by a 2008 restoration by Kris Spence guided by Ross records.
Did You Know? The Peach Blossom Invitational, originally known as the Betsy Rawls Invitational, brought LPGA champions including Babe Zaharias, Mickey Wright, Carol Mann and Betsy Rawls to the club from 1953 onward.
