Overview: The Old Course at the Country Club of Scranton is built on rolling Pennsylvania ground with mature trees, strategic bunkering, and the compact green shapes associated with Walter Travis. Its interest comes from the relationship between the individual holes and the way the course combines three separate nines into different 18-hole routes.
History: Walter Travis designed the original 18 holes in 1927. The club added a new nine by Michael Hurdzan in 1988, creating a 27-hole facility whose Pines, Willows, and Falls nines can be combined into the Old, North, and South courses.
Did You Know? The Old Course is not a standalone 18-hole construction in the modern sense; it is one of the club’s named combinations of three nines.
