Overview: The Country Club's Clyde and Squirrel nines form the main course in Brookline, Massachusetts. The routing grew over time across rolling ground, woodland and old sporting land, so its character comes from varied hole shapes, small targets and a sequence that rewards imagination rather than a single architectural signature.
History: The club was founded in 1882, while golf arrived on the property in 1893 when members laid out the first six holes. Willie Campbell expanded the course to nine holes and then eighteen by 1899; later land purchases and member-designed holes completed the evolving main course.
Did You Know? The Clyde and Squirrel nines are the original eighteen holes of the club's current three-nine system. The 2022 U.S. Open used a composite routing that included holes from the Main Course and the Primrose nine.
