Overview: The Country Club at Golden Nugget is a resort course on the west side of Lake Charles, where the layout works through bayou country, marsh edges and broad coastal lowland. Todd Eckenrode and Origins Golf Design created an 18-hole, par-72 course that uses water and natural vegetation to frame the holes without making every shot look the same. The scorecard length is about 7,000 yards, but the more revealing challenge comes from the changing relationship between fairway, hazard and green. The course has a spacious resort presentation, yet its bayou setting gives the round a distinctly Louisiana character.
History: The golf course was developed for the Golden Nugget Lake Charles resort and opened in 2015. It was designed by California-based architect Todd Eckenrode and Origins Golf Design as part of the resort’s broader amenity programme. The property later became the home of the Lake Charles Championship, a Korn Ferry Tour event first played there in 2022. That tournament connection gave the relatively young course an early place in professional golf, while the resort setting continues to shape how visitors experience the layout.
Did You Know? The course hosted the first Lake Charles Championship in 2022. The tournament was played on the same bayou-side layout created for the resort, giving a young course an immediate connection with the Korn Ferry Tour.
