Overview: The Gambler and Pioneer nines at The Club at Starr Pass form an 18-hole desert combination in Tucson, Arizona. Bob Cupp, Craig Stadler and Arnold Palmer are associated with the Starr Pass golf development, whose holes wind through Tucson Mountain arroyos and natural desert terrain.
History: The original Starr Pass 18 holes opened in 1986 as a Craig Stadler and Bob Cupp design. Arnold Palmer later redesigned the original routing and added a third nine, making Starr Pass a 27-hole facility; the Tucson Open was played here from 1987 through 1996.
Did You Know? A historic trail used by Richard Starr now crosses the golf property, and the official club history identifies the sixth fairway on the Pioneer nine as part of that route.
