Overview: The Cliffs at Mountain Park is a private Gary Player Design course in Travelers Rest, set in a wooded valley shaped by the North Saluda River. The routing works through foothills, meadow edges, native vegetation and natural rock, giving the 18 holes a distinctly mountain character. Fairways move between open views and tighter corridors, while water and changing ground levels influence the approach to several greens. The longest listed course details reach 7,130 yards at par 72, but the broad range of tee positions allows the course to be played at very different scales. The closing four-hole stretch, known as The Joust, provides a memorable final sequence in which placement and recovery matter as much as distance.
History: Mountain Park opened in 2013 as the seventh golf course within The Cliffs communities. Gary Player Design used the existing landscape as the starting point, working with the river valleys, mature woodland and meadow clearings instead of imposing a uniform resort layout. The course became the golf centerpiece of the Mountain Park community and added a highland setting to The Cliffs collection, which spans several different South Carolina and North Carolina landscapes. The design also reflects the property's environmental priorities, with natural drainage, native planting and the river corridor remaining central to the presentation of the holes.
Did You Know? The name The Joust refers to the four-hole finish rather than to a single hole. It gives the round a defined closing chapter, with the final holes moving through the river-and-forest setting that makes Mountain Park different from The Cliffs courses in the foothills and around Lake Keowee.
