Overview: The Apawamis Club is a private Rye course with small-scale parkland features and a design history that spans more than a century. The current course uses tree-lined corridors, compact targets and changes in elevation to reward accuracy and controlled recovery play.
History: The club's inception dates to 1890, and the golf course took shape in 1899 with Maturin Ballou and Willie Dunn Jr. among the early contributors. Herbert Strong, Donald Ross, Tom Fazio, Gil Hanse and later architects have each influenced the evolving course.
Did You Know? Apawamis is a rare course whose present character is the result of several distinct design eras. Reading the course as only a Donald Ross layout misses the earlier and later work that shaped its compact Rye setting.
