Overview: The Thabazimbi routing provides 18 bushveld holes and a par-72 card near the town’s iron-ore country. The course uses Cynodon fairways and Bent grass greens, with Monkey Thorn trees, the Rooikuil stream, bunkers, and natural bush shaping the route. It is an easy-walking course in a landscape that can look generous from the tee but becomes demanding around the greens, where firm decisions are needed to avoid turning a good position into a recovery shot.
History: The original course was designed by Bob Grimsdell and later redesigned by Peter Matkovich and Dale Hayes. The sources do not state a dependable opening year for the current routing, so that field is left blank. The design history is nevertheless clear enough to explain the course’s present identity: a traditional South African layout updated by architects who retained its bushveld setting.
Did You Know? The fifth hole is described as the toughest on the course, a tight par four bordered by bushveld. The seventh is a scenic par three with water in front of the green, and the 18th finishes as a par five. Those holes show the course’s variety, moving from demanding accuracy to a visual water test and then a final chance to attack.
