Overview: Tenison Highlands is the larger and more elevated of the two 18-hole courses at Tenison Park in east Dallas. The official course page lists par 72 and 7,078 yards, with five lakes, 32 sand bunkers, TifEagle greens, Bermuda fairways and groves of hardwood trees. D.A. Weibring and architect Steve Wolfard redesigned the course in 2001, fitting the holes to the natural terrain and using elevation changes to create a more demanding municipal round. The result is a public course with tournament scale, but enough tee variety to remain enjoyable across different levels of play.
History: Tenison Park’s golf history begins in 1924, when Dallas received land donated by E.O. Tenison and opened what became the city’s first municipal golf course. Highlands is the modern championship expression of that long-running public-golf tradition. The 2001 Weibring and Wolfard redesign added contemporary turf, water and bunker definition while preserving the park’s wooded setting. The adjacent Tenison Glen carries the older floodplain character, whereas Highlands uses elevation and more formal hazards to create its own identity.
Did You Know? The Highlands’ 18th hole is called Weibring Valley and finishes with a strong par four beside a hillside. The name recognises the redesign architect, while the hole’s shape gives the course a clear final test after its series of lakes, trees and elevation changes.
