Overview: Tecina Golf is an 18-hole coastal course on La Gomera, built into the steep southern side of the island above the Atlantic. Donald Steel's routing is defined by movement: the round begins high above the coast and works downhill through terraces, ravines and changing vegetation before the closing holes bring the sea more directly into view. The slopes create a constant conversation between club selection, lie and direction, while the Canarian planting gives each section a different texture. It is a course where the scenery is extraordinary, but the design remains the main event because every change in elevation alters the angle and distance of the next shot.
History: Tecina Golf was inaugurated in 2003 and was designed by Donald Steel, with the course celebrating its twentieth anniversary in 2023. The layout was created as part of the Jardín Tecina destination, but its identity is not that of a flat hotel course. It follows the island's natural contours and uses the long descent toward the coast as its organizing idea. The years since opening have allowed the vegetation to mature around the fairways and helped the course settle into its hillside setting.
Did You Know? Tecina Golf is played on a natural vertical journey from the upper part of the property down toward the Atlantic. That means the changing view is also a playing clue: a hole's apparent width, the strength of the wind and the shape of the landing area can all look different as the elevation changes.
