Overview: The Straits Course is Tanjong Puteri Golf Resort's coastal 18-hole routing in Pasir Gudang, Johor. The current operator page credits Akira Mamiya and lists 6,163 metres, approximately 6,740 yards; course references identify the layout as par 72. Mangrove edges, brackish ponds, streams, rocky ground and the wind off the Johor Strait give it a different playing character from the resort's Plantation course. The broad fairways do not remove the need for precision, because water and uneven ground make a loose line costly.
History: Tanjong Puteri was developed in stages from the early 1990s. The Plantation course opened first, followed by Village and then Straits in 1996, according to current resort and course-history references. Straits was therefore conceived as the resort's shoreline counterpoint to the palm- and fruit-tree setting of Plantation. It remains a separate 18-hole identity within a large golf destination close to Johor Bahru and the Singapore Causeway.
Did You Know? The coastal setting changes with the tide. Course references describe the second hole with a brackish mangrove backdrop at high tide, while the third tee looks down on a river winding through the mangroves before it reaches the strait. Those are not decorative side notes: they explain why the routing feels more exposed and elemental than the inland Plantation course. Sea wind, mangrove margins and undulating greens combine to make club selection as important as distance.
