Overview: Tanah Merah’s Tampines Course is an 18-hole, par-72 championship layout built on the eastern side of the club’s Singapore property. The selected pro-tee reference is 7,533 yards, while the official page lists 6,687 metres from its longest published tee. Phil Jacobs Design uses rolling ground, broad but strategically framed fairways, lakes and large greens to create a course that can be played with different levels of aggression. The scale is substantial, but the best route is rarely simply the longest one: wind, water and the angle into the putting surface repeatedly change the value of a safe line.
History: Tampines opened for play in 1988 and was rebuilt through a Phil Jacobs Design redevelopment that began in 2017. The current 18-hole championship course officially reopened on 23 February 2019. The redevelopment turned a reclaimed-land course into a more contoured and visually defined layout while retaining its role as Tanah Merah’s tougher championship companion to the Garden Course. The club has hosted major events including the Singapore Open and the 2025 Eisenhower Trophy.
Did You Know? The 4th is designed in the spirit of a Redan-style par three, with the green set at an angle to the line of play and a bunker hiding some rear pin positions. The 3rd uses a lake from tee to green and an optical-illusion bunker near the putting surface, while the 5th asks players to cross a canal between landing areas. Tampines makes its strategic ideas visible well before the scorecard reaches the final holes.
