Overview: Tallwoods is an 18-hole championship course at Hallidays Point, north of Forster. Dr Michael Hurdzan used rugged terrain and severe elevation changes to create a round that rises through eucalyptus, blackbutt and ironbark forest before opening to views toward the ocean and Great Lakes region. The current black-tee card lists 6,144 metres at par 72, or about 6,719 yards. Water, amphitheatre-like green sites and exposed downhill shots give the course a character far removed from flat resort golf.
History: Tallwoods was developed in 1999 as part of a residential and golf resort project. Hurdzan’s design is the only Australian course attributed to him, and the club’s current materials emphasize how the course follows the natural topography rather than smoothing it into a conventional parkland loop. Ownership and management have changed over time, but the course has remained open and the resort continues to market golf, accommodation and the surrounding coast together.
Did You Know? Several holes have names that reflect the site itself: the Quarry occupies a former quarry area, the Black Stump recalls the region’s logging history, and The Sentinels crosses Lake Tallwoods toward the giant gums. The naming makes the local landscape part of the course guide.
